The permanent exhibition focuses on the experiences of the former political prisoners during their detention by the East German secret police. It displays about 500 rare objects and over 300 historical photographs. In addition, 100 media stations are provided. In addition, the last prison director’s office is on display for the first time. An entire section addresses the lives of the Stasi staff and inquires about their motives.

Audioguides are available at the visitor desk for free in German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Danish and Russian.
