Gilbert Furian was born in 1945 in Görlitz. While still in school, Furian had dissident opinions against the GDR. His attitude towards the regime made it impossible for him to lead a normal life.
In 1985, he was interested in writing about juvenile punks in East Germany, which gave the Stasi pretext to sentence him to two years and two months in prison, the reason for which was the "preparation of writings that may possibly harm the interests of East Germany."
